Li Keran: The Perfection of Ink Works
Mr. Li Keran was a great master of Chinese art in the 20th century and also a recognized master of traditional Chinese paintings. In May 2011, the 鈥淓xhibition on Li Keran鈥檚 Art鈥 was held in the National Museum of China to comprehensively review and present Mr. Li鈥檚 artistic achievement.
This year, the 110th anniversary of Mr. Li鈥檚 birth, our museum, in conjunction with other institutions including the Li Keran Art Foundation and the Beijing Fine Art Academy, etc., selected, for the topic 鈥淭he Perfection of Ink Works鈥, 110 pieces of painting and calligraphy created by Mr. Li in his last ten years, for this exhibition in memory of the master of art. The last decade of Mr. Li鈥檚 life was the period when he built up his artistic style of 鈥淟i鈥檚 Landscape鈥, the period when his artistic language of ink painting improved, and above all the period when his artistic creation culminated. The exhibition not only presents his achievements made on landscape, character and cowherd painting, but also displays, for the first time, a large number of calligraphic works he created in his late years, especially his inscriptions for institutions, journals, celebrities and students, from which we can see both his unique calligraphic style in his late years but also his love for his family, country, teachers and friends as well as his social commitments.
