Living In The Ordinary World
Greenhill Center for North Carolina Art opens a retrospective exhibition of photographs by John Rosenthal entitled LIVING IN THE ORDINARY WORLD on July 22, running through November 4, 2023.
Finding the luminous in ordinary things has been a pursuit for Rosenthal for five decades. GreenHill鈥檚 survey will be organized around the artist鈥檚 major series of images of New York City, the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, his son as a child, and color landscapes of ocean waves or the French countryside.
Rosenthal鈥檚 works figure in the collections of the Ackland Museum and NCMA and he has held major exhibits at the National Humanities Center, Asheville Museum of Art and National Academy of Sciences among others. For decades he has 鈥渄efined what it means to see the world through an artist鈥檚 eyes鈥 not only through his own work, but as a writer on photography and commentator of 鈥淎ll Things Considered鈥 on NPR radio.
