Luise Fong: Nexus

Nov 12, 2024 - Nov 30, 2024

Bergman Gallery is delighted to present a new solo exhibition by Luise Fong.

From droplets of gesso to brush-marks of gold, silver and copper leaf, there is an aesthetic formalism to Fong's work, where circular and organic motif's have been an element since the 1990's. Often described as imaging microscopic / macroscopic aspects of the world, from cells of the human body to eclipse and galaxies.

Fong sees painting as a metaphor, interpreting aspects of her life and surroundings. Images developed from emotions evoked by a piece of music, to references of her Malaysian-Chinese heritage, the continuous flow of Fong's experience produces a vibrant and exciting energy.

As curator Ruth Ha states, 鈥渢his recent body of work emerges as a culmination of a long and diverse practice. Fong鈥檚 visual vocabulary has matured and crystallised into precise motifs. The references to her cultural identity, so palpable in her sculptural and installation practice, are now seamlessly incorporated into painted abstractions.鈥
