Manet to Maya Lin

Jun 09, 2018 - Sep 02, 2018

A walk through Manet to Maya Lin is a journey through time and across continents. This exhibition assembles an array of works by regional, national, and international artists collected by the Nevada Museum of Art over the course of nearly ninety years. The Museum’s permanent collections are divided into focus areas that are unified by an overarching focus on natural, built and virtual environments. This thematic, rather than historical or stylistic specialization, is a natural outgrowth of the institution’s collecting practices over the years and offers varied perspectives on the ways in which humans interact with environments. Manet to Maya Lin shows a sampling of the range and character of the Nevada Museum of Art’s holdings, augmented by select loans from private collections.

Most every art museum has a goal of creating and maintaining a strong permanent collection, providing institutional identity and continuity for museum visitors. Visitors develop rapport with personal favorites from the works on display, delight in them during return visits, and regard such pieces as the signature of the museum.
