Monumental in Microcosm: The Models and Drawings of Ronald Bladen
Models and drawings by the Canadian American sculptor Ronald Bladen (1918-1988) will fill the Sarah Moody Gallery with rhythm and power for this exhibition. Each of the scale models or preliminary sketches here grew into a large-scale piece of outdoor sculpture. Visitors to the gallery will be able to see the creative planning that gave birth to Bladen鈥檚 monumental works, which are located throughout the US, Germany and Saudi Arabia.
Bladen studied art at the Vancouver School of Art in British Columbia and at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. He worked as a welder for a time and subsequently followed his artist friend, Al Held, to New York in 1956. Bladen worked in New York from 1956 until his death in 1988, teaching at Columbia University, Parsons New School of Design and the School of Visual Arts.
