Nouveaux Commanditaires en France

Apr 17, 2010 - Jun 13, 2010
Six prototypical examples of Nouveaux Commanditaires (New Patrons) in France will be presented in the Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig in an exhibition scrutinizing the differences between the programmes in France and Germany. The examples on show here have been selected to convey the full spectrum of both the artistic possibilities and social dimensions involved in the process. The following projects are just some of those planned for the presentation: 1. the project by Remy Zaugg in Blessy, 2. the multi-confessional room by Michelangelo Pistoletto in Marseilles, 3. the memorial to Jacques Lacan by Alain S茅chas in Dijon, 4. Le Monstre by Xavier Veilhan, 5. M茅moire en Demeure by Tadashi Kawamata in St. Th茅lo, 6. the model for Chenove by Studio Acconci.

Short films, photographs, objects and models will provide an insight into the procedure Nouveaux Commanditaires, along with information on the cultural-political or legal conditions and requirements in France, whilst also examining the project's participatory processes and their effects on an understanding of art in its relation to society. A joint display, designed specifically for the exhibition by Markus Dre脽en, Anna Lena von Helldorff, Philipp Paulsen and Kay Bachmann, will do full justice to the diverse aspects of content and form.
