ONLINE: Letters from Exile
Patricia Bouley: “The themes in my work have changed over time but what has been consistent is my exploration of human emotions and the relationships that bind us. I like to think of my work as more than a depiction of the moment; rather it is a filter…an expressively female lens…through which I absorb impressions to create an expression. What I seek is a confrontation with the things that stir me…feelings, connections, and unresolved conflict."
Larry Groff is a San Diego based painter whose work shown here embraces both the observed and imagined landscape of the Salton Sea, the largest body of water in California. Groff attended the Massachusetts College of Art, B.F.A. in Painting and Boston University, M.F.A. in painting, he is also the owner and editor of PaintingPerceptions.com.
Renée Khatami utilizes defined shapes, transparent color, and texture to layer various materials. Paper is the primary medium – a reference to her background in book design.
Gerald Marcus: Having spent the last several months in the country, it occurred to me that nature doesn't really care about us: with all the terrible things going on, the grass still grows, the snow still falls and the birds still sing. This isn't exactly news, but for me as a landscape painter, it is a consolation."
Although Ellen Piccolo has been a showing representational painter for many years, she has found experimenting with fiber art to be liberating and enjoyable. Work in this show focuses on the relationship of shape and color to create a sense of movement and interaction.
