The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is the principal museum of the Netherlands and one of the top 10 Museums in the world. The Rijksmuseum houses a large and World famous collec­tion of objects of Dutch art and history. The museum was founded in 1800. It was originally known as the National Art Gallery and was housed in The Hague. In 1808, when it was moved to Amster­dam, the name was changed to Royal Museum. The name Rijksmuseum (State Museum) dates from 1815. The collection of the Rijksmuseum includes 6.500 paintings, 45.000 works of sculpture and decorative arts, 27.000 historical objects, 5.000 works of Asiatic Art and nearly 800.000 prints and drawings and approximately 100.000 photographes.  
The Rijksmuseum has a tradition of staging high-quality exhibitions, combined with new arthistorical insights and publications.
