PIIOTOS_WTC
NEW YORK – At the beginning of September, 1500 Gallery will be hosting a
special exhibition in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11: PIIOTOS_WTC,
an exhibition of photographs of the Twin Towers by 22 of Brazil’s most
recognized photographers who lived, worked or were passing through NYC
between 1973 (the year the Twin Towers were inaugurated) and 2011.
PIIOTOS_WTC will be on view at 1500 Gallery from September 7-17, 2011. There
will be an opening reception at 1500 Gallery on Wed, Sept 7, from 6-8 pm.
The PIIOTOS_WTC exhibition at 1500 Gallery will run in parallel with a
PIIOTOS_WTC exhibition of the same images at Espaço Soma in Sao Paulo,
Brazil. PIIOTOS_WTC has the institutional support of the Consulate General of
Brazil in New York and is intended as a cultural exchange between Sao Paulo and
New York City: a tribute by Brazilian artists to the United States of America and
to New York City, as well as to the tragic events of 9/11/2001. PIIOTOS_WTC was
curated by Sao Paulo-based journalist Fernando Costa Netto, with input from
Ilana Bessler, 1500 Gallery’s Sao Paulo-based curator.
PIIOTOS_WTC consists of images by the following Brazilian photographers: Ali
