Personal Choices from the Arts Council Collection

Nov 13, 2010 - Jan 16, 2011
How do you curate an art exhibition?

Fourteen regular visitors to QUAD aged between 55-75 are about to find out as they rise to a new challenge of curating a major national art exhibition of 20th and 21st century painting and sculpture.

Following 10 months of lively debate and research the curators have selected from the Arts Council Collection of 7,500 British artworks, featuring major figures who have attained international acclaim, including David Hockney, William Nicolson, Ken Kiff, Gillian Ayres, L S Lowry, Grayson Perry and Patrick Caulfield.

The curators bring to the project many combined years of experience and a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm for the arts. As part of the process they have travelled to art stores in London and Yorkshire to view the collection and make their final decisions. They will present and interpret their chosen artworks from their own personal perspective ensuring that the exhibition will appeal to a wide and diverse audience. The exhibition's lead curator is Jane Bevan.
