Political Speech is Suprematism: The Me拧trovi膰 Pavilion

Sep 19, 2009 - Nov 14, 2009
The Slought Foundation is pleased to present this architectural exhibition which focuses on the changing history of the Me拧trovi膰 pavilion in Zagreb, Croatia, and the cultural practices that it has inspired.  Designed in 1934 by the late sculptor Ivan Me拧trovi膰, the site is noted for its grandeur and its glass dome.  The building itself has gone through many transformations based on different political agendas that have swept through the area during the 20th Century.  However, it is through the many artworks that have recently been presented in the pavilion that reflects its rich history as well as its symbolic power.  The Slought Foundation features many of these artworks.
Works featured in the exhibition include:

* Near Island: Score for a Complex Scene (2006), by Ben Cain, Tina Gverovi膰, and Susan Kelly
* Untitled (Behind the Curtain) (2000) and The Mosque (2001), both by Igor Grubi膰
* Political Speech is Suprematism (1999/2000), Home of the Artists (2003), and Voice of the Artist (2003/2005), by Zoran Paveli膰
* K2 (1997, and 2009 performance reenactment), by Zlatko Kopljar
* Sculpture (1954-2000), by Ivan Ko啪ari膰
* Me拧trovi膰 Pavilion (2009), an animation by Dario Bardi膰
* Pavilion & Square / Politics & Power (2009), a documentary by 沤eljko Sene膷i膰
