Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 鈥 1669) is one of the most celebrated figures in the history of art. A brilliant painter, printmaker, and draughtsman, throughout his prolific career Rembrandt explored a wide range of subjects and styles. His prints circulated widely and established his reputation throughout Europe.
Although best known for its exceptional holdings in modern and contemporary art, the Des Moines Art Center owns a remarkable collection of Dutch Golden Age etchings by Rembrandt and his contemporaries. 鈥淩embrandt and His World鈥 will feature examples of the artist鈥檚 iconic self-portraits, biblical scenes, and pictures of everyday life, all drawn from the Art Center鈥檚 permanent collections, alongside those of his contemporaries, including Jan Both, Karel Dujardin, Reiner Nooms, Adriaen van Ostade, and Jacob Salomonsz van Ruysdael.
