Rhythm in it. On rhythm in contemporary art is the title of a new, international group show presented by the Aargauer Kunsthaus. Including work by 37 artists, the exhibition provides stimulating and surprising insights into a subject that is central not just to music but to the visual arts as well, even though, to date, it has received scant attention in exhibitions. Rhythms appear in many guises in the art of the past three decades as a tour of the exhibition reveals. Kinetic art as well as film and video works show movementbased rhythms, while other works offer an acoustic experience or focus on temporal rhythms such as the daily cycle or the cycle of becoming and passing away. The exhibition also looks back at early 20th century examples that examine formal rhythms as an essential aspect of Modernism, whose lasting topicality becomes particularly evident in a dialogue with contemporary artistic approaches. The exhibition places the subject in a larger context and, in doing so, contributes to a current cultural discourse. Rhythm in it 鈥� Rhythm is it !
