Salvador Dali & The Avant-Garde Circle Of Pierre Argillet

Pierre Argillet (1910-2001) was a French collector, photographer, and publisher of original prints by prominent members of the European avant-garde and surrealists; most of whom were his close friends. The most popular and well-recognized of them was unquestionably the Spanish surrealist, Salvador Dali (1904-1989). Beginning in 1960 through 1974, Argillet and Dali collaborated on a series of editioned original intaglio prints, producing nearly 200 etchings and engravings over that 14 year period. Most of these were created as a series exploring a particular theme of the artist鈥檚 interest, i.e. 鈥淭he Mythology Suite鈥 (1963-1965); 鈥淧oems By Mao Tse-Toung鈥 (1967); 鈥淟es Hippies鈥 (1969-1970); and others.

However, Pierre Argillet also published numerous etchings by other critically important European avant-garde figures. For the first time ever in the U.S. these seminal contributors to European Modern and 20th century art history will be presented in this gallery exhibition with over 25 original etchings by Salvador Dali, and over 20 original etchings by George Braque (1882-1963); Leonor Fini (1907-1996); Hans Bellmer (1902-1975); Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978); Jean Cocteau (1889-1963); Johnny Friedlaender (1912-1992); Jacques Villon (1875-1963) and several others.
