Shared Knowledge

Jul 30, 2021 - Dec 05, 2021

This exhibition showcases the work of eight teaching artists from the Byron School of Art (BS'A) in Mullumbimby: four BS'A Directors – Michael Cusack, James Guppy, Emma Walker and Christine Willcocks – and four long-course teachers – Chris Bennie, Michelle Dawson, Travis Paterson and Kat Shapiro Wood. Each of these artists, while maintaining their own vibrant practice, teach emerging artists. This generous sharing of knowledge, skill and experience plays a vital role in the development and strength of the visual arts in the Northern Rivers region.

Alumni BS'A student Vicky Attenborough reflected on her three year course at the BS'A :

“What I valued most was the sense of freedom to follow my own direction, whilst being supported and encouraged by lecturers who are not only practicing artists but also great teachers. My time at BS'A had a positive and direct impact on my Honours project and, by extension, on my art practice. I have the greatest affection and admiration for all those who had the courage and dedication to start BS'A, and all those great students I have had the honour to work and exhibit alongside. I’m very proud to be a part of something so innovative and love being called a BS'A Alumni."
