Stove Works. Endless Reach
In Endless Reach, artists Devin Balara and Bradley Marshall continue sharing a creative space and dialogue that began early this year with their connection as fellow residents at Stove Works in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Starting with an 鈥渁mateur鈥檚 grasp鈥� on 鈥済eology, deep time, and prehistory,鈥� Balara鈥檚 work in steel now reflects her 鈥減ractice of self-teaching鈥� 鈥渕orphed into a kind of character study of one who learns and the objects, books, and rituals needed to perform the learning.鈥� In an intersecting space with Balara, Marshall works in sculpture and photography, navigating 鈥渢he politics of design through making,鈥� and 鈥渨orking to collapse the physical, psychological, virtual, and emotional into language soup.鈥� The artists鈥� shared space now continues at the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artist Residency, as their overlapping practices and distinct languages in the use of similar mediums illuminate their fascination with how humans classify space and foster performance through objects and infrastructure.
