Studio 85

Jul 22, 2023 - Sep 01, 2023

The renowned Studio 54 was an exclusive nightclub in New York City that became in the late 1970s an icon. The club, opened in 1977, attracted in the disco era a dazzling mix of celebrities, artists and partygoers: known for its extravagant and wild parties, 'Studio 54' became a symbol of the exuberance and freedom of that era.

The title of the exhibition ›Studio 85‹ brings however its meaning to another level: the term 'studio', in the English language, refers also to the artist's atelier, which is an inseparable part of the creative process and of the creative art world. It is a tribute not only to the living history of art but also to the energy and glamour of days both past and present. The predominantly painted positions capture attention with vibrant colours, haunting textures and intriguing motifs. While some works use figurative representation and perpetuate the tradition of pictorial representation, others surprise with monochrome compositions that embody a minimalist aesthetic. Moreover, one may discover a profundity in the multi-layered paintings that invites the viewer to immerse oneself in it and discover. The exhibition thus offers an exciting variety of artistic expressions that both reflect the traditions of painting and the innovative paths that they lead to.
