Takesada Matsutani: Prints, 1967-1977
Les Abattoirs continue their collaboration with l'Institut national d'histoire de l'art to present a selection of engravings by Takesada Matsutani.
After the exhibition Seismography of Struggles. Non-European Journals from the 18th to the 20th century, Towards a Global History (2019), les Abattoirs continue their collaboration with l'institut national d'histoire de l'art to present a selection of engravings by Takesada Matsutani (born in 1937 in Osaka, Japan, lives and works in Paris since 1966), following the artist's exceptional donation to the INHA made this year.
In 1963, at the age of 26, Takesada Matsutani was accepted into the Gutai group by its founder Jiro Yoshihara (1905-1972). He is one of the rare Japanese artists to have spent most of his career in France where, from 1967, he devoted himself to engraving alongside painting. Experimentation and spiritual reflection mark his work, which is now being honored.
