The Elemental North 2022
The North of England has an alternative artistic tradition which most regions simply do not have. With its sense of place it stands alongside the Norwich School of East Anglia and the Cornish School of Art with traditions that go back centuries. Messum鈥檚 have regularly championed the diverse and progressive artwork which derives from an environment where the interplay between places and their history can produce subject matter of profound and productive resonance. The regular 鈥楨lemental North鈥� exhibitions have allowed us to tackle the scale and scope of these artists in a dynamic fashion and this latest group of carefully selected paintings draws on the theme of land and the layered history of places which are so important to the artists.
