The Large Sculptures of the Daimler Art Collection

Mar 04, 2019 - Sep 22, 2019
Between 1986 and 2000, around 20 large sculptures for public spaces in Stuttgart, Sindelfingen, Berlin and Ulm were acquired. This ensemble is complemented by commissioned works 鈥 wall paintings, construction-related sculptures and wall reliefs 鈥 for public interiors of the company. Recent changes in use have led to the decision to add further important sculptures by Frank Stella and Nigel Hall in front of building 120 in Untert眉rkheim 鈥 the location of the Executive Board since October 2018 鈥 to the existing large sculptures by Max Bill, Tony Cragg and Heinz Mack in the surroundings of the Untert眉rkheim plant and the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. Another important step in this context is the repositioning of the sculpture 鈥淭ag und Nacht [Day and Night], 1983, by the sculptor Bernhard Heiliger: acquired for the Daimler Art Collection in 1986 as a memorial in memory of the forced laborers during the Second World War, this impressive work will be open to the public by end of October 2018 for the first time on a specially constructed site opposite the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The exhibition with photographic documentations and explanatory texts on all important sculptures and commissioned works at the historical Mercedes-Benz headquarters founded in 1904 would like to draw attention to this uniquely high-quality ensemble.
