The Printed Line
The Printed Line is the highlight of Print, celebrating the art of printmaking at The Wilson.
The Printed Line features work by around 50 of the most celebrated artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Work by artists including Hockney, Matisse, Picasso, Yinka Shonibare, Whistler and Rachel Whiteread are among the Arts Council Collection exhibition.
This Arts Council Collection exhibition in the second floor gallery explores how artists have used printmaking techniques to exploit the potential of the printed line since the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition shows a variety of techniques from the thick velvety line of drypoint and the heavy cross-hatching of etching to delicate wood engraving and boldly coloured screenprints and lithographs. Arts Council Collection is managed by Southbank Centre on behalf of Arts Council England.
