Tomáš Císařovský: Yellow Spot

Sep 15, 2010 - Nov 21, 2010
Tomás Císarovsky ranks among prominent figural painters of the middle generation, those who, in the late 1980s, introduced Postmodernist art onto the Czech scene. He first attracted the attention of the cultural public by his by now legendary "legionnaire" series relating to certain tabooized and misinterpreted chapters of this country´s history. Since the 1990s he has retained his status as an artist whose work is widely recognized and closely followed by curators. For his exhibition in the Old Town Hall, the artist has prepared a unique collection of watercolours offering a close peek into the creative processes unfurling in his output over the last few years.

The title of one of his cycles, Yellow Spot (in its original context denoting the physiological point in the human eye where vision is sharpest), has given its name to the whole show.
