War and Peace – 50 Years of the Jerusalem Print Workshop

Jun 29, 2024 - Mar 08, 2025

The exhibition marks 50 years of the Jerusalem Print Workshop. The Workshop, and Arik Kilemnik who heads it, established the medium of print at the core of Israeli art, by inviting artists to explore various printing techniques.

Some of these artists were well-known, others were at the beginning of their careers; encouraged by the Workshop’s team, they set off on a material adventure, free to dare and experiment. Many of the works created in the Workshop have become iconic in the emerging canon of Israeli art. In the spirit of our times, the exhibition’s title is taken from Tolstoy’s epic masterpiece, War and Peace (1869). The exhibition shifts between the two underlying forms of existence and draws life cycles and generational alternations, against the thunderous background chords of history. The exhibition’s experiential wealth and expressive multitude faithfully attest to the Jerusalem Print Workshop’s unique character.
