Wine on the Cuff, Dirt on the Collar

Jul 27, 2024 - Aug 24, 2024

We enter a world steeped and vibrating with the tangible and immaterial traces of that which came before.

There is nothing we do that does not already have a history — foraging, welding, baking, archiving, dreaming, dancing, weaving, alchemy… Every experience and expression offers us a now that is entangled with the no longer and the not yet. The no longer resonates in the present from the past, an entity, event, or idea whose moment has come and gone, while continuing to make its presence felt. The not yet whispers to the present from the future through that which never came to be, yet still holds potential.

Residues between the temporal surfaces.

Wine on the Cuff, Dirt on the Collar is as much about absences as it is about residues. The artists in this show directly, discreetly, and deceptively harness the collapse of personal or collective spaces, states, and connections. Through acts of dismantling and falling away, the emergence of and enfolding of space, and through sifting and revealing, the works assembled here occupy a generative and active ontological process.
