Youth Vs. Crisis: A Generation In Search Of A Future
In its anniversary year, the Kunsthalle will be exploring the attitude toward life, aesthetics, fears, and hopes of today鈥檚 youth in its youth club New Perceptions. The exhibition 鈥淵outh vs. Crisis: A Generation in Search of a Future鈥 examines the world view of young people, who have been dramatically influenced by the global crises of our time. The works in the show reflect complex issues that confront the youth of today: climate disaster and racism, a media hyper focused on physical appearance and staging (fake) identities the loss of physical meeting spaces due to the pandemic, and the strengthening of digital communities.
The exhibits examine the strategies young people use in digital and public spaces: from empathy to subversion, from safe spaces to political protests, from escapism to parties. Instead of hopelessness, the New Perceptions group pushes for responsibility and advocates a sustainable and fairer world. The * in the German title "Generation*" is key: It conveys the need to define oneself through an attempt at radical inclusion and not through differentiation.
Established positions and newcomers, and painting and social media feeds will communicate in an exciting exchange in the exhibition. A fragmented portrait of a diverse generation will be drawn which is deliberately subjective and contains many voices.
