Zisis Bliatkas: Forecasting

Mar 19, 2025 - May 23, 2025

Rebecca Camhi Gallery is pleased to invite you to the solo exhibition of Zisis Bliatkas entitled 鈥淔orecasting: Days as Surfaces.鈥

鈥淭he canvas is similar to trees. We can imagine the highest leaves of a tree as those that first sense changes in weather and temperature. The trunk is there to support the expansion of the foliage, which extends over a larger surface and height to capture the daily sunlight. If we look at trees structurally, we are struck by their attention to excellent support, as well as the gentle occupation of space by the leaves.

A similar support and expansion is found on the canvas, which manages to participate and reconstruct the story of light. Whether it is sunlight or the digital light from the screen, the painting reconciles them. After all, it is an object that awaits to learn how organic life operates.

This is how I approach painting, as a large surface that can accommodate constructions and events: a wooden lighthouse, the lights of a provincial road, falling fireworks. These creations can rest on the surface and relate to external experiences. The adventure of creating an image is also the occasion for a forecast, a calm and static narrative of luminous becoming.鈥 鈥 Z.B.
