Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan are inviting Bundanon Art Museum visitors to contribute to their new work – which ‘demystifies the idea of art as an individual pursuit’.

In the Australian imagination, Bundanon–‘deep valley’ in Dharawal–is deeply connected with Arthur Boyd and the Boyd’s dynastic legacy: the 1993 bequest of 1000 hectares of bushland, farmland, two homesteads and an art collection valued at $47 million.

It was early in 1989 when I decided to head down to the South Coast, taking the Princes Highway from Sydney to Shoalhaven, to visit the painter Gary Willis, who at the time was living in the Singleman’s Hut at Bundanon.

In July 1983, Arthur Boyd received the kind of commission that artists both dream about and dread: to create two large paintings and a suite of smaller works for the new Arts Centre Melbourne.

Over the weekend Bundanon unveiled its opening Season for 2024, Tales of Land & Sea, now open to the public until 16 June 2024, alongside an expanded live program.

Deep within the valley on Gammēya-Dharrawal Country, Bundanon welcomes twelve artists from Aotearoa New Zealand, exploring the wealth of languages, from speech and writing, gesture and music, to the ongoing flow of communications from the natural environment.

In the deep valleys bordering the Shoalhaven River, on land belonging to the people of the Dharawal and Dhurga language groups, a new exhibition at Bundanon calls for a multisensory engagement with language.

Bundanon has unveiled its major new exhibition season, The Polyphonic Sea, in the award winning Art Museum, open to the public until 8 October 2023. 

If you listen carefully as you move through Bundanon Art Museum you might hear the ambient sounds of the Shoalhaven River or strains of cafe gossip.

For Bundanon’s latest exhibition season, titled Siteworks: From a deep valley, 25 artists and 10 scientific researchers take unusual approaches to the idea of the weather report, across a broad program of exhibitions, performances, talks and workshops.
