DENVER * For months now, the Denver Plein Air Arts Festival, hosted by the Golden Triangle Museum District, has invited artists to paint on location within the boundaries of the museum district in downtown Denver. In August and September, artists painted while crowds observed at the 16th Street Mall, the Denver Art Museum Sculpture Deck, the Grant-Humphreys Mansion, the Governor's Mansion, the State Capitol, and Civic Center Park.

Of the Governor's Mansion Paint Out, the governor's wife, Jeannie Ritter, remarks, "The plein-air experience is so restorative for those of us who live and work here and, I believe, for the participants as well. Through their inquisitive eye and exacting brush strokes, they allow us to see this century-old treasure from a new perspective."

After all of the paint-outs, works were submitted in two categories: professional and emerging, Now, the Denver Plein Air Arts Festival Exhibition is set to take the stage. The exhibition of accepted works runs through December 31 at the Denver Public Library, with an opening reception on November 9.

The exhibition showcases many talented artists. Jane Christie has been painting all of her life and aims to reflect her love of nature, color, and light through her impressionistic style. Ann Gargotto sees art as "a commitment to mastering the fundamentals and finding endless joy in the artistic journey of self-expression." She draws inspiration from her godmother, Chicago artist Syivia Thompson. Carolyn Miller seeks to capture the rhythms of daily life in her paintings. She paints both on location and in her studio using photographs taken during her travels. Trained in the Russian school of painting, Anita Mosher is an American impressionist and a founding signature member of Plein Air Artists Colorado and Nomadas del Arte.

Growing up in Washington, DC, oil painter Jeannie Paty spent her teenage days in the Smithsonian and the National Gallery of Art. Cheryl St. John is a fourth-generation Colorado native with a deep appreciation of the natural environment. Depending on what look she wants to achieve, she uses either watercolor or oil to create her plein-air paintings. Susiehyer is a full-time oil artist who paints figures, still lifes, interiors, and more, but is often drawn to the Colorado landscape and each year travels to several new locations. She won the inaugural Denver Plein Air event in 2007. Nyla Witmore is a prolific impressionist painter who works in acrylic, watercolor, and oil. Half of her paintings are created on location and the other half are done from her studio with reference photos or still life arrangements.
