This month it is our pleasure to announce the first-ever book from the editors of Southwest Art. Our subject is the many talented sculptors who make their homes in the Rocky Mountain region. Sculpture of the Rockies features 97 contemporary and traditional artists living in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Colorado. We've chosen sculpture ranging from representational to abstract in a wide variety of subject matter, from western figures to wildlife. The book dedicates two pages to each featured artist, including one full-sized image of sculpture and a short list of questions answered by the artist that provide insight into his or her work. A list of gallery representation and contact information for the artists is included as well. The front cover artwork is by Colorado sculptor Andi Mascarefias, and the back cover features a major piece by George Carlson, who resides in Idaho.
Some of the artists included in the book are Dee Clements, Veryl Goodnight, George Carlson, Jim Budish, Lori Acott-Fowler, Laurel Peterson GregOTy, Vanessa Clarke, Karryl, Denny Haskew, Silvia Davis, and jane DeDecker. Some of the artists showcased are established masters. They have already achieved long and accomplished careers, completed important commissions around the country, and taught cadres of aspiring students who have now become successful artists themselves. Other sculptors featured are in earlier stages of their careers andare just beginning to make their mark on the art world, having earned entry into important exhibitions and galleries. All are creating works that merit attention, and all are a part of the great sculpture movement in the Rocky Mountains. Sculpture of the Rockies, available November 21, makes an excellent gift and is essential for art lovers interested in learning more about today's top Rocky Mountain sculptors.
