1932-1942 Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale

Apr 13, 2025 - Nov 23, 2025

The new exhibition 1932-1942 Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale, curated by Marino Barovier, will run at Le Stanze del Vetro until 23 November 2025.

The second chapter dedicated by LE STANZE DEL VETRO to the history of Murano glass at the Venice Biennale examines the time period from 1932 to 1942 鈥 that is, from the 18th to the 23rd Biennale, a time span corresponding respectively to the inauguration of the Venice Pavilion (1932) and to the last edition of the Biennale before the interruption caused by the Second World War.

Since 1932, Murano glass was featured at the Biennale in a dedicated space, the Venice Pavilion, built specifically for the decorative arts on the initiative of the 鈥業stituto Veneto per il Lavoro鈥. The value and quality of the so-called minor arts were thus officially recognized, and a selection of them was chosen to be presented to the general public at the Venice Art Biennale.
