A Collective Diary: An African Contemporary Journey

09 Jan, 2010 - 04 Apr, 2010
Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art is please to announce the opening of the exhibition A Collective Diary, a Contemporary African Journey. The exhibition, which opens on 9 January 2010, will encompass the entire museum, featuring photographs, video works, sculptures, collages, installations and paintings by twelve contemporary African artists, from the region stretching south of the Sahara.

In A Collective Diary, a Contemporary African Journey the curators present the results of a thoughtful exploration into contemporary African art, an almost completely obscured art in our area. This is a golden opportunity for the Israeli audience to be acquainted with art works that draw on different cultural experiences, while they address the human condition shared by all of us.

A Collective Diary, a Contemporary African Journey is a journey to the depths of the African "self" within the contemporary globalism. Each and every artist in the exhibition deals in his or hers own way with questions of identity and belonging, and in particular with national, familial, personal and individual identity, within the world of contemporary art and media.

The artists taking part in the exhibition are:  El Anatsui, William Adj茅t茅 Wilson, Samuel Fosso, Myriam Mihindou, Moshekwa Langa, Mich猫le Magema, Bili Bidjocka, Zwelethu Mthethwa, Aim茅 Ntakiyica, Dilomprizulike, IngridMwangiRobertHutter, Jo毛l Andrianomearisoa.
