A Memory Surfaces
Founded in 1984 in Ankara, Galeri Nev programmed the final months of 2024 with events celebrating its fortieth anniversary. Having started its exhibition program at its venue in Horasan Street, with a solo show of Abidin Dino, Galeri Nev completes a full circle and proudly presents a new show of Dino in Ankara. After hosting more than 300 exhibitions at home, the Abidin Dino exhibition opening in mid-November will be borrowing its title from the text the artist wrote back in 1984 for the inauguration: 鈥淎 Memory Surfaces鈥�.
Following the same path toward remembering and forgetting, Galeri Nev also hosts 鈥淭he Beginning of Memory鈥�, putting once again words to things remembered and others forgotten, but this time through stories about birds. This exhibition that is hosted at Ark K眉lt眉r, refers to so many ephemeral exhibitions the Gallery has realized in 陌stanbul since 2012, parallel to its program at the capital. The exhibition takes its inspiration from a creation myth that believes in a time when only water and birds existed in the world and through the works displayed, looks out for a terrain on which the birds can land, a tree on which they can nest. To the works commissioned specifically for the exhibition, Galeri Nev adds treasures from its archives and the estates of the deceased artists and the gallery thus represents the oeuvre of 40 artists. The building of Ark K眉lt眉r, which itself celebrates its fifteenth birthday, reminds us of the first venue of Galeri Nev, on Horasan Street. Its mission of being a 鈥渉ome鈥� for artists and art institutions based outside of Istanbul, completely corresponds with Galeri Nev鈥檚 flying presence in this city.
The first one of Galeri Nev鈥檚 ruby anniversary exhibitions 鈥淭he Beginning of Memory鈥� opens on November 5 at Ark K眉lt眉r and will run until November 30, with a finissage event, 鈥淥nce in a Forty鈥�. The following exhibition, 鈥淎 Memory Surfaces鈥� opens on November 15 at K谋rlang谋莽 Street and will be on view until December 7.
