Known for her hand-sculpted and blown glass reimaginings of historical still-life painting,
Beth Lipman creates a new installation for the RISD Museum of Art. She visited the Museum and was drawn to the galleries in Pendleton House, the American decorative arts collection housed in a purpose-built neo-Georgian house (1906). Inspired by the rich collection of objects in these period rooms,
Lipman addresses issues of aging and decay as well as material consumption and excess. She worked with students in RISD`s Glass Department to create some of the works for this installation, including several glass topiaries and a full-size glass settee. After You`re Gone also includes glass wallpaper and a pair of portraits specifically designed for this exhibition.
