The Eugene and Clare Thaw Collection of American Indian Art at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, NY, is a showcase of landmark creations by gifted North American artists, working across millennia and across the continent, from the Arctic to the Southwest and the Eastern Woodlands to the Pacific Northwest. The Museum of Art is honored to host the exhibition, American Indian Art from the Fenimore Museum: The Thaw Collection, which features more than 35 exceptional objects that include a rare war record in pigment on cowhide and a feather headdress from the Lakota; a ca. 1925 jar by Maria and Julian Martinez, from San Ildefonso, New Mexico; an early-19th-century Haida Raven mask, from British Columbia or southern Alaska; and a Beacon Lights basket, 1904-05, by Louisa Keyser (Dat So La Lee, ca. 1850-December 6, 1925), from Washoe, Carson City, Nevada.
