Andr茅 Komatsu: Guides and suburbs
Andr茅 Komatsu鈥檚 work explores the ways in which we negotiate the urban space and power structures that materialise in the built environment. In one of the installations to present, he uses iron rods, originally rigid material used to construct buildings structures and relies them on nails that maintain their stability and complements the installation with vertical incisions and horizontal forming a grid, design arises from the distortion of the horizontal rods, diagonal or curved. Seeks to establish a tension between an invisible reality, control and their possible distortions.
The artist is inspired and reflects during his daily tours around the city. By repeating day after day the same paths, these different perceptions wake in him, moments of his creative process that he compares to the literary epiphany. According to Komatsu, his work is an investigation that involves understanding the art field and its integration into the daily life in the city. Perhaps the artwork is just a one way instrument to emphasise in new forms of perception.
It is a questioning of the development of people within a territory designed, limited, structured, imposed, and how they create strategies for survival and transformation.
