Angela Rumble creates treescapes which gradually lose their treeness. Working in oil with a restricted colour palette, she explores the tension between the sterile nature of digital images and the stubbornly hand-made quality of painting. Printmaking and collage techniques are used to obscure and uncover areas, further adding to the sense of disorientation. She sets herself obstacles; drawing round shadows, building up and peeling back layers to reveal the spaces between the tangled confusion that is the forest.
