Birke Gorm: let me stop you right there
Trash, identity, consumption: Birke Gorm collects scrap material from her surroundings and the public dump, then sculpts, sews, and assembles, defying the speed of late capitalist society.
At the core of Gorm鈥檚 new works for her solo exhibition at O鈥擮vergaden sits a question about the circular do鈥檚 and don鈥檛s of public behavior鈥攖he unpicking of what鈥檚 high and what鈥檚 low, what鈥檚 right and what鈥檚 wrong, what鈥檚 trash and what鈥檚 not. Reflecting on what rules apply when humans are trained to handle the chores of our communal spaces, dangerously sharp materials are composed as eerie chandelier-like clusters, high-hung, far from touch, flipping their junk appearance into one of flashing glitter while hovering above a floor installation made from waste cardboard. Meanwhile, in another new series, Gorm creates a horizon of hundreds of neatly aligned dolls produced from tea towels and napkins.
