David Hockney: Time and More, Space and More...

Sep 13, 2018 - Nov 21, 2018
Richard Gray Gallery is pleased to announce Time and More, Space and More鈥, an exhibition of recent works by David Hockney, on view at the gallery's Gray Warehouse location from September 13 through November 21, 2018. Time and More, Space and More鈥 is the artist鈥檚 tenth solo exhibition with Richard Gray Gallery and his first exhibition at Gray Warehouse.

Time and More, Space and More鈥 presents Hockney鈥檚 recent video and camera-based works in tandem. Making its gallery debut at the center of the exhibition is Hockney鈥檚 multi-part video installation, The Four Seasons, Woldgate Woods, 2010-2011 which was exhibited in 2017 at both Centre Georges Pompidou and Tate Britain. The work is composed of four 9-channel video walls arranged like the four cardinal directions of a compass rose. Depicting the same view down a tree-lined country road in Yorkshire, each season is captured. As Arthur Kolat notes in his catalogue essay, The Four Seasons demonstrates Hockney鈥檚 agility in multiplying time and perspectives -- a skill he honed in the 1980s using polaroid photography. In the video installation, each screen shows a picture in motion, yet the subjects are fairly motionless. 鈥溾nlike the earlier photo collages which included a multitude of consecutive moments, The Four Seasons includes both consecutive time and simultaneous time.鈥
