Drawings and Prints: Selections from the Permanent Collection
Highlights from the nineteenth century include a new acquisition by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867), Virgil Reading the Aeneid to Augustus, Livia, and Octavia. The drawing will be exhibited alongside other examples of Neoclassical drawings depicting scenes from classical antiquity, including another recent acquisition, Christoffer Wilhem Eckersberg鈥檚 (1783-1853) The Surviving Horatian. In addition, a selection of drawings and prints by the eccentric French artist Rodolphe Bresdin will be on view, as well as an amusing array of prints, illustrated books, and ephemera on the theme of hair.
The installation will include a selection of modern and contemporary portrait prints by artists such as Henri Matisse, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, and Elizabeth Peyton. A portfolio of twelve lithographs entitled That is Right by Ed Ruscha (American, b. 1937) and a colorful set of five abstract etchings by Thomas Nozkowski (American, b. 1944) will also be on view in the gallery.
