Expressions of A Pandemic
"Even in uncertain times, there are no limits to the creative spirit鈥 "
Compositum Musicae Novae (CMN) is pleased to present Expressions of A Pandemic, curated by Cuqui Beguiristain, an exhibit inspired by enduring quarantines, and social distancing. The exhibit speaks to the emotions that connect us and document this moment in our history as interpreted by twenty-three visual artists through painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, drawing, assemblage, and installations. The exhibit will open at the Coral Gables Museum on Friday, August 21, and will remain on view through August 30.
While masks are recurring throughout the exhibit, politics, spirituality, and homeschooling also come into play; a series of portraits honor those battling the coronavirus in the frontlines, seniors, and essential workers; some artists rendered what isolation and loneliness feel like, while others documented moments of joy. The notion of home has evolved and, accordingly, artists created works that celebrate the feeling of being home and forming new relationships with our interior as well as outdoor spaces while other works take you to faraway places.
