In the sculptor鈥檚 studio
The process of artistic creation and in particular the ways of capturing, performing and producing a sculpture in marble, clay and metal are at the core of the exhibition which introduces us to the sculptors鈥 workshop. Through representative cases of sculptors, whose work became a point of reference for modern Greek art in the first post-war decades to the first post war decades, models in clay and plaster and their final works are exhibited in the museum that Alex Mylona herself dedicated exclusively to modern sculpture.
Materials, equipment and photos of the sculptors鈥 themselves 鈥渁t work鈥 in their real workshops capture the atmosphere of those creative spaces.
In parallel, the accompanying bilingual catalogue in greek and english, which is a useful book for modern Greek sculpture with original texts, attempts to look back at its history. Exhibition and catalogue complement each other, while giving a panorama of the inner everyday world of the artistic expression of sculptors in Greece.
Works and archive material presented in the exhibition come from MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and State Museum of Contemporary Art Collections, MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona, National Gallery-Alexandros Soutsos Museum, Benaki Museum-The Yannis Pappas Studio, George Zongolopoulos Foundation, private collections and sculptors鈥 families.
