Karolina Balcer and Michalina Kacperak: Ouch
The Ouch exhibition is a double voiceover by artists Karolina Balcer and Michalina Kacperak about life in a family affected by trauma 鈥� including the crisis of one鈥檚 brother鈥檚 homelessness (Balcer) and the other鈥檚 father鈥檚 alcohol use disorder (Kacperak), as well as the codependency of those closest to them. It is also an exhibition about the power of cooperation, which, as the artists, who are tired of working independently with challenging subjects, admit, 鈥榬efreshes and strengthens鈥�.
Although they use different techniques 鈥� fabric (Balcer), photography (Kacperak) 鈥� the artists have much in common. What they share is a seemingly candy-colored form, humor, lack of literalism, but most of all the courage to tell their story, tenderness towards their families and inclusion of their family members in the creative process. Not only to create art, but primarily for a mutual attempt to understand the mechanisms present in the family and to free themselves from trauma.
