The foundation of layers comes from the physical world and applied historically in the traditions of mapping and musical notation. Maps and timelines use overlapping shapes and lines to associate different levels of data, allowing them to contribute to the whole while maintaining their own identity. In the art making process, layers can be a vital aesthetic to convey a myriad of visual and emotional responses to a viewer. This vibrant group exhibition will feature artists Alexandra Arata, Cheryl Edwards, Amani Lewis, and Maritza Sosaya, all of whom use different forms of layering in the creation of their work, while each use the method to develop unique and distinctive outcomes.
