Make Yourself At Home
A group show organised by graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts, 2023 of North Metropolitan of TAFE, delves into the nuances and deeply personal realms of what it means to feel at home and to belong. This exhibition features a collection of works from six emerging artists, each of us exploring the concepts of homely comforts and belonging through our unique perspectives and mediums. Through sculpture, textiles, ceramics, printmaking and photography, we engage with themes of identity, memory, displacement and sanctuary.
At the core of this exhibition is the understanding that ‘home’ transcends physical spaces – it is a patchwork of emotions, relationships, and experiences that shape our sense of identity and inclusion. It is created through our rituals of solace, arrangement of personal belongings or the company of a certain person. These acts are vital to our feelings of comfort, and sense of control.
The exhibition offers a space for contemplation, conversation, and connection, through the eyes of the artists; from the incorporation of traditional, domestic objects to the abstract depictions of emotional landscapes. The artists invite you to step across a welcome mat, to witness the strange, intimate, cosy and tender; to explore your own feelings of home and sense of belonging.
