Masterworks from the Chrysler Museum
In West Building the Museum presents a series of magnificent loans selected by NCMA Curator of European Art David Steel from the Chrysler Museum in Virginia. Interspersed throughout the galleries, this array of 18th- and 19th-century paintings and sculptures by such masters as Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Francesco Bertos, Mary Cassatt, and Auguste Rodin is strategically installed next to related stars in the permanent collection, inspiring dialogue among the works.
Visitors are encouraged to start their exploration in the Rodin Court, where the sculptor鈥檚 first masterpiece, The Age of Bronze, is displayed, along with Rodin鈥檚 bust of his mistress and muse, the artist Camille Claudel, poignantly titled The Farewell. Nearby in the Impressionism Gallery, visitors will find a beautiful Degas dancer, Renoir鈥檚 lovely painting of his dealer鈥檚 children (The Daughters of Durand-Ruel), and a charming family portrait by Mary Cassatt.
