Normandy's Painters
'Normandy’s Painters' gives the Museum’s visitors a chance to see a wonderful range of works by some major painters in the history of art. They include Monet, Renoir, Courbet, Bonnard, Boudin, Corot, ³Òé°ù¾±³¦²¹³Ü±ô³Ù, Dufy and Delacroix, all of whom were inspired by the natural world of Normandy.
Their motifs reflect the fantastic landscapes and ever-changing weather of Normandy. Since the 1800s weather has played an increasingly important role in human consciousness. This development is particularly evident in painting, in which weather is captured as an image of spiritual emotions.
'Normandy’s Painters' is based on the collection, 'Peindre en Normandie', a French institution (subsidised by both private and state funding) that exists to collect works from the 19th century, which focus on the landscape of Normandy.
