Om, I鈥檓 home
InOm, I鈥檓 Home, artist and guest curator Kat Geng invites 13 Bay Area artists to make work that explores their experiences of home within an interactive and playful installation.Viewers are welcomed into an environment loosely based on a living room, where they are encouraged to make themselves at home. At a time when the rising costs of rent are displacing both artists and SF natives, the exhibition adresses home not only as a familiar source of stability but also as a place in constant flux.
Om is a sacred sound and mantra with origins in Hinduism that when chanted, the union of disparate voices elicits a vibration that is both unifying and said to calm the nervous system. Om, I鈥檓 Home is an announcement of one鈥檚 arrival home and nod to the universal desire to arrive at that physical or spiritual space where we find ourselves at ease. This exhibition will blend diverse artistic voices, through artworks and performance, to create an eclectic, playful and ephemeral atmosphere that engages the artist and viewer alike to consider: How do we collectively envision an environment that is so personal? When we lose our physical home, how do we maintain our inner home? And simply, What is home?
