Patricia Piccinini: Curious Affection

In her most ambitious exhibition to date, globally renowned artist Patricia Piccinini will occupy GOMA鈥檚 entire ground floor with a retrospective of her key works and a suite of daring new commissions conceived for the Gallery鈥檚 expansive spaces. Known for her imaginative hybrid creatures, Piccinini uses sculpture, installation, video and sound to realise a fantastic and compassionate vision inspired by science, Surrealism and mythology.
Born in Sierra Leone and raised in Australia, she has exhibited extensively around the world. She represented Australia at the 2003 Venice Biennale, created the infamous inflatable sculpture The Skywhale for the 2013 Centenary of Canberra, and drew over a million visitors to a touring exhibition in Brazil in 2016.
鈥楶atricia Piccinini: Curious Affection鈥� is exclusive to the Gallery of Modern Art. Along with a survey of some of the artist鈥檚 most recognisable life-like sculptures of the past ten years, it will include a large-scale newly commissioned inflatable sculpture suspended in GOMA鈥檚 Long Gallery and culminate in a vast and immersive multisensory environment.
