Peter K枚hler VOYAGE TO THE END OF THE UNIVERSE

08 Jan, 2009 - 08 Feb, 2009
Galleri Magnus Karlsson is pleased to introduce Peter K枚hler鈥檚 first solo exhibition at the gallery. Peter K枚hler is born 1971 in Stockholm. He was educated at The Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm 1995-2000. Peter K枚hler鈥檚 paintings and drawings borders between abstraction and spontaneous figuration. The images are formed layers by layers, intuitive and directly but with accurateness and precision. The paintings surrounds you and as a viewer you are able to step into Peter K枚hler鈥檚 milling world of images, where the references are high and low, from Jackson Pollock to Keith Haring and graffiti. With his playful and expressive painting he creates agravic landscapes in an airy atmosphere, under water or perhaps on an unknown planet. Recently, Peter K枚hler has gone from picturing everyday life to a refuge into a utopic dream world. In some of the work 鈥 a drawn dairy and four works on paper 鈥 there is also a evident inspiration from Southeast Asia in form and symbolics. 鈥淭here is a sense of isolation in what I do, but it feels stereotype talking about it. I have been influenced by writers such as William Burroughs and Isidore Ducasse and in their work there is definitely a sense of isolation and observing the absurdness of life. In several paintings I have in different ways combined areas and interests that have fascinated me for many years. For example, the metaphorical world around the wide term of superstition and classic science fiction-images of new worlds filled with fantasies (and clich茅s) about the unknown.鈥 Peter K枚hler
