Positions: Gut Feeling

07 Feb, 2025 - 20 Apr, 2025

Four artists - Lakisha Apostel, Elvis Chen, Filipp Groubnov, and Wessel Verrijt - transform the exhibition space at Stroom Den Haag into a theatrical stage. To the antiquated eye the exhibition might seem like a mismatch of objects and arrangements. But upon closer inspection, the arrangements reveal an intentional artistic method at play.

Each installation embodies a different world, different ideas, and various ways of working. The artworks are juxtaposed as an exercise in the art of looking sideways. It begs many questions. Are there hidden connections? How do we experience reality? How does it feel? Can the body be trusted? Is the mind fooling us? What is your gut feeling?

Positions: Gut Feeling invites the viewer to enter these worlds and to read between the lines, look sideways, and up. Notice the play between wet clay and electric wires, weathered wood and static-filled screens, rusted steel and polished aluminum, ripped paper and thrifted fabrics. The artists鈥 play seems haphazard, yet rich and meticulous. The result is an exhibition that allows for wonder and active imagination, where unexpected materials and forms create a space for discovery and fascination.
